Green Community Church began in 1907 when a Methodist minister started conducting Bible classes. In 1928 the local PTA became
involved and Sunday School classes were continued. In 1948 lay ministers from Roseburg began Morning Services and in 1949
Village Missions began regular organized services.
In the summer of 1950 Green Community Church was formed and incorporated. A young evangelist from the Missionary Church
introduced them to the Missionary Church. The church made a request for membership and was accepted. The local body became
a part of the Western District and was later moved to the Northwest District.
The first pastor, an experienced church builder, was called. In April 1951, the charter members were received into the church and
the building was dedicated on April 20, 1952. During the 1960s the church prospered both in members and spiritually. An Annex
was built and the sanctuary was remodeled. In 1976 additional classrooms were built along with a gym and kitchen. We had a large
music ministry which consisted of a choir, orchestra and a traveling quartet. During the late 1980s and through 2000 we were very
involved with the organization and support of Lacamas Camp. Our pastor worked to get everyone who walked through the doors
involved in Bible Studies, children and youth ministries and lots of social and fun activities to bring people to a saving knowledge of
Jesus Christ and help them live a committed, holy life. In 2005 a vision team was appointed to create a new vision and purpose for
our church and it was adopted May, 2006.
Pastor Tudor Lance was hired to embrace that purpose and move us forward. In 2008 new by-laws were adopted along with a new
church structure. A transition team is in the process of moving us toward that new structure. Green is committed to a vision that is
both inclusive and transformational in its plan to be able to effectively share the gospel of Jesus with three hundred and fifty
people by 2011. We are committed to being a community that is on the cutting edge of ministry through the use of a broad
spectrum of the arts. We are committed to building community through small groups and effective and challenging discipleship
through classes and programs that meet the spiritual formation needs of the whole family. We are committed to caring for the real
needs of people by providing service that empower and not enable dysfunction and a misunderstanding of the work of the church.
During the years that Green Community Church has been in existence, there have been 11 fulltime pastors, an associate pastor, 3
assistant pastors, 4 youth pastors and 1 interim pastor. Many were here for a short time, others staying for several years with the
longest being 19 years, 8 years and 7 years.
Our average attendance has been 122 for those years that records were kept. Many people have come and gone over the years,
but many of the charter members and their children and grandchildren still attend church today. We have always seen the
importance of supporting missionaries and currently support 4 missionaries, 1 since the late 1970s. We have tried to meet the
needs of our community whether it is handing out food bags, providing free clothing, a meal or help in the time of crisis.
